UTILITY & CIVIL EARTHWORK FOREMAN
5+ years of experience

It is one of Washington's most reputable private earthwork and utility contractors providing commercial and residential site development services. Most projects are located within the greater Seattle area in both King and Snohomish county.
We are looking for employees who have experience in Earthwork, Sewer, Storm, and Water mainline utilities.
The position is for individuals who are safe, skilled, productive, take and convey pride in workmanship, equipment, vehicles, and tools. You should be able to manage crew members and site needs. Uphold personnel and site safety as well as equipment safety or functionality needs. This is a safety sensitive position.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
5+ years of experience in construction industry for heavy civil, commercial, residential & multifamily projects
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications as well as implement them
Ability to understand cut sheets, cut/fill #'s, elevations and pipe slopes
Hold experience in both earthwork and utilities
Possess both oral and written communication skills
Possess both organizational and time management skills
Be cost conscious and able to adapt to changing situations
Ability to foresee problems and pro-actively and safely take action to avoid them
Exhibits integrity & ethical behavior in all facets of duties above

This position has a pay range of $45-$60 per hour
Mainline Operator
3+ years of experience
Team Nelson is looking for mainline operators that have experience installing sewer, storm, and water pipe. Also, you must know your way around earthwork, mass grading, etc. You must feel comfortable working with heavy shoring (double, triple stack trench boxes), steel plates, ROW work, digging around existing utilities, etc.
Qualified Applicants should
Be team-oriented and willing to help with all tasks
Have 3 yrs minimum experience as a mainline equipment operator
Know how to be productive using different types of heavy equipment
Understand grades, elevations and compaction requirements
Be experienced with pipe crews or earthwork operations
Be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
Be able to work at multiple sites within the Greater Seattle Area

This position is an in-office role at the company's headquarters.
We are looking for an experienced, well-rounded Project Manager. Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years of proven experience managing earthwork and utility contracts. If you meet the technical qualifications, are a skilled communicator, excited to work in construction, can manage multiple priorities and take initiative-this is a job for you. In this environment, you will enjoy tackling projects while collaborating with others, leading a team, and motivating them to deliver results to be proud of.
Project Manager Duties
Review and negotiation of contract scope of work
Successful completion of project from post-estimate to the finish line
Set up and transfer the budget from estimating to the accounting dept
Manage dollars within budget, throughout the project
Solicit and award bids for any necessary subcontractor work
Buy-out all project related aggregate and pipe materials
Review and approve project timecards and daily reports for accuracy and efficiency
Coordinate all field issues and scope of work changes
Estimate all scope changes and submit change order request to client
Submit accurate billings per clients' deadline and format
Track receivables and notify client when past due
Coordinate and conduct pre and post job meetings
HCSS (HeavyBid or HeavyJob) software experience a major plus
Proficient with MS office software suite
Vista Viewpoint software a major plus

Earthwork and Utility Superintendent
5-10+ years of experience
The Earthwork and Utility Superintendent leads on-site operations for heavy civil construction projects, including mass excavation, grading, and underground utility installation (water, sewer, and storm systems).
This role is responsible for ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget while managing field crews, subcontractors, equipment, and materials.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership
Direct daily operations for earthmoving, excavation, grading, and wet utility installation
Supervise field crews, foremen, and subcontractors
Maintain strong on-site leadership, accountability, and productivity
Scheduling & Coordination
Develop and maintain short- and long-term project schedules
Coordinate subcontractors, inspectors, and material deliveries
Plan work sequencing to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime
Safety & Compliance
Enforce OSHA standards and company safety policies
Conduct daily safety meetings and job hazard analysis
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and project specifications
Quality Control
Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications
Verify grades, elevations, slopes, and utility alignments
Ensure installations meet project standards and municipal requirements
Resource & Production Management
Track production rates and monitor equipment utilization
Manage on-site labor and control job costs
Collaborate with Project Managers to maintain budgets and forecasts
Qualifications
Experience: 5-10+ years of progressive experience in heavy civil construction, site
development, or underground utilities
Education: High School Diploma required; degree in Civil Engineering or Construction
Management preferred
Technical Expertise:
- Strong background in mass grading and wet utility installation
- Experience with GPS machine control systems
- Proficiency in project management software (Procore, HeavyJob, MS Project, or
similar)
Certifications: OSHA 30-hour certification preferred; valid driver’s license required
Skills & Competencies
Strong leadership and decision-making abilities
Excellent communication with engineers, inspectors, and clients
Proven problem-solving skills in fast-paced field environments
Ability to manage multiple crews and deadlines simultaneously
Compensation & Benefits
Pay range: $55-$65 per hour, depending on experience
